Game Creator Retsuden

Published irregularly between 1998 and 2000, it's a documentary manga following the development of popular game software

The 1998 episodes are:
The Men Who Created Virtua Fighter (Yutaka Suzuki)
The Man Who Created the Derby Stallion (Hiroyuki Sonobe)
The Men Who Created Resident Evil (Shinji Mikami)

The 2000 episodes are:
The Men Who Created Gran Turismo (Kazunori Yamauchi)
The Men Who Created Super Mario Bros. (Shigeru Miyamoto)
The Men Who Created the PlayStation (Ken Kutaragi)

Not included in the tankobon release, it's the tech-toy promotional chapter: The Men Who Created AIBO (Game Creator Biography Special Edition)

Each chapter follows a strict structure, in which the the main character, a game creator, announces the concept of a groundbreaking game. At first, the staff members are against it, but later agree to develop it after being persuaded by the protagonist's enthusiasm.

Then a prototype is completed, but it's never good on the first try and he has to be re-done from scratch. After the release date is set and the game completed, the protagonist is confident about the quality of the game but worried if the audience will embrace. Of course, the chapter ends with the game becoming a groundbreaking hit.

The stories are exaggerated with typical shonen manga tropes and comedy scenes, with a significant part seems to be fiction; despite this the series has received numerous parodies and homages in the years following its publication.
