Chiyoka Kitahara has no interest in anything other than swordsmanship. One day, Chiyoka saw a soldier making a woman cry in the street. She got mad and attacked him with her wooden sword, but he fended her off and defeated her easily. Afterwards, Chiyoka's parents tried to set her up with Yoshizo, a naval officer who turned out to be the man who beat her in that sword fight. The two were married without any affection for each other, purely a marriage of convenience. But on their wedding night, Yoshizo pushed Chiyoka into bed and said, "This is what should be done between husband and wife."
